The National Green Tribunal has issued notice to Vedanta seeking its reply within six weeks over forest land encroachment in Odisha’s Jharsuguda.
Acting on a petition filed by Jagannath Bhoi and NonViolence Again, the supreme green authority of India issued notice also Centre and State government.
Vedanta Aluminium Ltd, without obtaining any prior permission from the competent authority, has constructed Ash Pond over a large area of forest land measuring to the extent of about Ac. 246.74 belonging to Jharsuguda district in India’ eastern state of Odisha.
Several complaints were made to competent authorities on different occasions by some conscious citizens of the locality including the petitioners Jagannath Bhoi and Nonviolence Again. Unfortunately, the authorities did not take action.
